Ladies and Germs another week bites the dust.
It was actually a pretty good week, so let me tell you about it. A lot
of stuff happened and it was actually a pretty high paced week. Two
start things off last Monday we went to a basketball activity that a
member created and they were trying to invite a lot of friends too. We
went and nobody there was really good at basketball, but we met a
really cool guy and became friends with him and he took us to the gym
where he works out and had us sign up. We went the next day and made
friends with other guys lifting at the gym. We don't have time to go
there often, but everyone really like the big 外人(gaijin-foreigners).
We were probably the strongest guys in there.
On Wednesday I had a pretty crazy experience. We met one of our
investigators (山中 Yamanaka) on the street. He's the one that has the
speaking issue, but anyways, he told us that his Brazilian preacher
told him that he can't meet with the Mormons anymore. We were both
kind of surprised and we tried to learn more. He had no reason to stop
meeting with us except for his preacher telling him no. This made me
rather bothered and his excuse wasn't to my satisfaction. After all
the testifying and effort that went into him I wasn't going to just
let him not meet because his Brazilian preacher said no. So I boldly
(close to too bold) testified to him on the street of the Restoration
and how he needs to accept the true true church in order to return to
God again. Thank goodness for my compadre Elder Andrade who stayed
very calm and patient and invited him to ask his preacher questions
pertains to things like the priesthood, baptism, etc. and if he
couldn't answer then to call us. He didn't accept to meet again and I
don't know if I'll see him again, but I am satisfied that I gave him
several chances to accept our message.
Another fun story took place at a less active lady's home. Her name is
ironically 松本 and she is way nice. While we were talking to her she
told us she has nine children and six of them are daughters. Andrade
asked how old her kids were and other normal things like that and she
told us that the oldest are around 20 years old. Andrade asked if the
were married and had kids and she said no and then told us she'd love
her daughters to marry some nice guys... like us. Andrade told her
that he already had a girlfriend, so that left me. 松本姉妹 proceeded to
tell me I could marry any of her daughters and was telling me their
names and promised me that they are beautiful. I am not particularly
interested in dating the native populace and was trying to turn down
such a gracious offer. I felt like Ammon in the Book of Mormon when
King Lamoni offers his daughters to him for his service.
On Friday we had our Zone Training Meeting and it was way good. A lot
of the focus was on a project that President Ishii wants the mission
to start centered around he Book of Mormon. We are going to read the
Book of Mormon together as a mission and are marking things that
pertain to Christ; such as every time His name/related pronoun is
mentioned, words of the Lord to his prophets, doctrines and
principles, etc. We gave everybody a fresh, new copy in their native
language and everyone was super excited to do it.
In correlation with this project, Andrade wanted to try something
again here that he did in his last zone. The goal was for every
companionship to give out a copy of the Book of Mormon a day. The
reason being that the Book of Mormon has such great power and it helps
people become investigators. That may seem crazy to some of you that
in a non-Christian nation how could we do such a task. At first I was
even skeptical if it was possible, but as we have gone out to work we
have so far always been able to hand one out a day so far. All the
companionships in the zone have seen super cool miracles from it. It
was a dream of mine when I was a bean to find new investigators
through the Book of Mormon. It is central to all of my religious
beliefs. I believe all should read it and ponder it's message. If they
do so, why can never deny the truths it contains.
That's about it for the week and I've written a lot here. The weather
is nice and cool enough for a sweater so fall is moving in nicely. I
wish you all the best from Japan!
